How dis this compare to the traditional tourna grip? I always felt like it wore out very quickly so was good for competitive match play but not casual players.

Don't confuse the above with tourna grip OVERgrip. The above is a replacement grip. The main issue I've had in replacing my original grips is when the replacement results in a different grip diameter. This is one reason I avoid many of the 'cushion' grips, as some add 1/8" to the manufacturer grip size (if not more).

EDIT: Btw, good price for a replacement grip with generally solid review.

Deal seems to be dead at walmart as well, but to your point, I wouldn't recommend that. Tennis racquets are held in hands very loosely, and the all they do is hit a 2 oz rubber ball, and even that contact is cushioned by strings. Grab it harder and apply any rotational or longitudinal friction, and it will probably easily slip out.
