Everlast Welder POWERTIG 200DV GTAW-P/ SMAW Tig / Stick $1079 at Everlast Generators

The 200DV is best bang for buck of any brand, in my opinion. It does "Lift-TIG" start, which if you ask anyone in the industry, that is what you want.

It also has 100% duty cycle @ 100amps on 110v, which is the best you'll find anywhere near this price.

It's also AC capable, so aluminum is in play.

Many of their welders are on sale right now, too.

Seems like a good deal. Everything is included from regulator to torch. 120-240V.
Great for home use, unlike my Miller Dynasty 300DX.

I have to disagree OP, Hi-frequency start is far superior then bare-bones lift arc/scratch start for generally everything(few exceptions), especially welding aluminum. If anyone wants to learn more about welding, check out Welding Tips and Tricks or Weld.com on YouTube

It does offer High Frequency start. But this isn't on sale, that's the normal price. This isn't really a slickdeal.

The welder includes HF start as well as lift start.

For those less savvy folks out there, "lift start" is not the preferred method of initiating an ARC, that would be High Frequency start. Having "lift start" only would pretty much make this thing only good for steel.

The YESWELDER Mig205DS is a far better deal at a third of the price, regardless of whether or not the GTAW supplies are included.

What's wrong with having a dynasty for home use?

I have tried them all. All have their strengths and weaknesses at any price.
However, if you want the bewt damn MP under 5K grab a ESAB Rebel.
They make novices look like pros. Honestly these are so easy to weld with, some trade schools won't buy them.
The 215ic is $2500 and can do amazing work.

I was kind of confused why they even said that. Lift start is the basic default. Why would it be the best?

Not a bad price. I want to start doing some sculptures by welding - is this safe to use inside a home garage or do I need to build a metal shed in the backyard?

I wouldn't weld in such a tight enclosure as a shed for many reasons, primarily fumes (regardless of method) and, depending upon the method, sparks. Taking precautions within a garage is better, provided combustibles are not present. A welding blanket will be helpful.

The garage will need to be free of combustibles and have an adequate fresh air supply. A shed is too small.

HF (High Frequency) start is better, but you will quickly get used to the lift method.

Thought I wrote a long comment on this yesterday, but I guess I didn't hit post. Here's my short review and recommendations:

I bought a PowerTig 250EX, years ago and was never able to get stable arcs. Delivery from Everlast took months and I was billed when I ordered it. Everlast would not send a replacement and wanted me to set up tech support that was only available during my work hours. All the "upgraded accessories" I was supposed to get by ordering from them instead of Amazon were really cheesy and not comparable to any name brand accessories.

I was so disappointed in the machine that I threw it under the shelf for years and used other welders. I pulled it out again last year to see if I could get it to work and while tweaking settings it Popped loudly and will not even stick weld anymore. I'm out of warranty now. The boards on these are a handmade mess. I'm not sure it's even worth my time to troubleshoot and repair.

There are lots of positive (likely paid) reviews for these, but if you do some searching you will find lots of people with heavy metal bricks or issues welding with them. They have had various issues with failures over different manufacturing changes. It doesn't seem like they ever really do quality testing after a manufacturing change and have to go back and replace boards or components after they determine they have a bad batch of parts in a production run.

If you buy one, definitely use a credit card and you would be better off buying from amazon so you can just return if you get a non-functional unit. I recommend spending a little more for a major brand even if they don't come with accessories. You will not be happy with the accessories that come with this and will want to replace the torch and pedal for sure.

I can't emphasize what is said above enough or say it better.
