my brain went straight to 4tb SSD......was never so quick to blindly buy 5 of an item without thinking.....luckily i saw the speed and thought for a sec.
Why do you say that? I've been using two Blue drives for 9 years with no issue. We also use them in our million dollar equipment at work.
maybe he is angry some wd drives like the one in the promo is a SMR drive (bad for Nas or raid setups) and wd is not exactly clear about it. https://nascompares.com/answer/li...rives-hdd/ this website helps to tell which one is SMR or not
According to Amazon this is only a savings of $4.27.
According to Best Buy's eBay page, it's a savings of $45.
Usually a fair deal on a 2.5" external (in an enclosure) is $20/TB.
Usually a fair deal on a 3.5" external (in an enclosure) is less than $16/TB, the closer to $15 or below $15/TB the better.
This deal is $16.25/TB.
This is not in an enclosure, so it should cost less than one in an enclosure.
However, it is true a WD RED HDD is cheaper purchased in an external enclosure and shucked than it is to buy a bare RED HDD.
I don't know if the same holds true for a WD BLUE.
There was just a deal on SD for, I think, this same price of $65 for a WD 3.5" 4TB RED.
Isn't RED a better storage drive. It's the HDD of choice for NAS.
I just checked. The RED was $68.99 or $58.69 AC YMMV.
You can sometimes find a used WD external 2.5" 4TB for $62 to $65. It usually has a BLUE HDD inside.
There's currently a WD external Black 2.5" 5TB on Amazon for $93.
WD 2.5" External My Passport 5TB can be had for $80 to $100.
WD and the companies they've purchased are the best game in town for platter HDD's.
WD and Seagate bought all the other manufacturers.
I thought Toshiba was still independent but heard they were bought too.
Seagate purchased Samsung which was a great manufacturer but have long since put aside the Samsung designs and polluted the line with Seagate shite "technology".
I've used many different brands of hard drives for decades including Seagate, Hitachi, WD, Toshiba, Samsung, and hands down WD has been the most reliable and trouble-free drives. I leave my computer on 24/7 as well. All things considered, I now pay a little more for WD if I need a hard drive.

It's a crummy SMR drive. These slow way down if you try to copy a large amount of data to it, like for backups, cloning, bulk media storage, etc. And for RAID rebuilds they can take 10-15x longer, so really just don't use for RAID.
Really sneaky labeling SMR drives as WD Blue. I have several older WD Blue 4TB that are amazing HDD and almost bought some more at this great price. Glad I double checked the fine print. Getting to where I don't dare buy WD drives anymore. I am surprised they care so little for their hard earned reputation.
Never works that way because often the ones in an enclosure are mystery drives they are trying to get rid of. External drives are generally cheaper.
Assuming the same drive is inside, you would expect an external to cost more.
Actually, you often get a better drive cheaper in an external enclosure than if you buy it bare.
That's why people shuck externals.

What's the best/fastest internal 4TB HDD SATA 2.5" money can buy? It will be used for storing and accessing music and pictures. Thanks in advance for your opinion
