For someone who isn't in the Ryobi ecosystem, if they buy this they may feel like staying away from Ryobi altogether. The impact driver is good, but for 2022 standards it's just to big and bulky (almost the size and weight of their p215 drill). I think this model in specific came out in 2016.
The battery although only 1.5ah, has no battery indicator on it and is bigger than the current Ryobi 1.5ah battery packs. They need to make a better initiative of including only the new battery packs.
The charger is similar to those small ones found in most Chinese ebay drill sets. It feels flimsy and charges slow. it latches on to the top of the battery, rather than their other docking style chargers which feel sturdier. No reason a better charger cant be included especially when there are like 3 other better chargers offered by Ryobi.
If anyone is not sure what I mean, I suggest check out all the Ryobi tools on display at home Depot and one can easily see the differences in quality, fit and finish.

Should I get this package (largely) for the charger?
Or should I wait it out for a charger that comes with a different bundle, or just buy a 'solo' charger?

It's the slowest charger they offer. About a 5 hour recharge on this 1.5 ah battery. The P118 is 30 minutes, for reference.

They're not that expensive, so it's spending $10 to ship a $15 charger that kinda kills the deal.
Probably not without breaking them lose with something larger first. You would need something with a little more power than this

drill can do 100% of what impact can (you may need to pre-drill or get drilling screws or hammer/drill to speed things up)
impact is nice to have especially for mid to large projects.
hammer/drill method - set the drill to avoid stripping the screw. when the screw no longer wants to go in, tap it couple times with a hammer. apply drill again and hammer until it's all in. i use this method when i don't have a drill-bit or don't feel like using one.
