Thanks, need something like this for my trees in a relatively small backyard, didn't want to spend too much as I don't expect to use it too frequently. Even if it's not perfect, $50 is about as good as it seems these get outside of one off YMMV situations.

Anyone know how heavy this is? The last one I bought I returned because my senior citizen father wanted it but it wound up being very heavy.

Does this actually cut decently or are we taking very small branches that I could otherwise manually cut with clippers?

Not sure about this one but if it's anything like the one from Harbor Freight it should be able to cut some decent branches. I used my HF one and cut 6"+ branches. The chain is what goes on these and need to be sharpened once in a while.

Not sure about this one but if it's similar to the HF one maybe 10-12 pounds?. Of course the further out it's extended the "heavier" it gets.

It's pretty heavy especially when extended. We ended up having one person on the ladder to hold it in place and someone lower to start it up.

I have bought two Sun Joe pole saws, both of them the 803 version (10 inch, 8 amp). They are fantastic. I have lots of large trees that had not been taken care of when I bought my house a few years ago. I burned up the motor on the first one after 3 years of use and 4 replacement chains and just purchased my second one. I got them for $60 each via slickdeals posts. I'd personally recommend waiting for an 8 amp model and only paying $10 more for it. If you have smaller branches this 6.5 amp model should be sufficient. Note I typically cut branches that are anywhere from 2 to 12 inches in diameter with my 8 amp, no problem.

Don't bother.
Hire out.

It's not the weight per se. Even if was 5lbs, the problem occurs due to the length. 5lbs hanging off a long pole is like catching a fat catfish. Heavy, awkward, cumbersome.

Some of these have a sling, but it's still a PITA.

Old school saw blade on a pole type pruner is all I'd recommended.

Its going to be heavy unless the motor is on the handle instead of the head.

I've used the 10" bar version with great results on various trees. Use proper eye protection and don't be that guy standing on the top rung of a dinky ladder stretching out to the moon trying to cut a log sized branch overhanging the roof.... For oil I use basic vegetable oil. It doesn't have any negative effect on the cut limbs and its cheap. Clean the saw after every use and inspect before and after every use. As per the weight of the saw vs the pole arm durably its fine. As long you comprehend it's the saw chain doing the cutting and not Hercules pressure on the saw that does the cut. If you're looking for a pole saw that sees regular use then invest in a better item. For $50 it's a weekender light use item that does what its intended to do.
