I have 2 of these printers, which work great when they are OK, but I have had a few problems, as follows:

1. I replaced the original toner cartridge when empty with a genuine Brother toner cartridge. After a few hundred pages it started to leak toner and became unusable. When I called Brother to seek a warranty replacement they asked where I had purchased it (perhaps you must buy from an authorized dealer) and when it was purchased. They offer a 90 day warranty from date of purchase, not date of install. They could tell over the internet when it was installed and that I had only used genuine Brother cartridges. Since I had purchased it a while ago when it was on sale at Amazon they rejected my request for a warranty replacement of the cartridge. Going forward I will buy cartridges only when I need them, but I feel their policy is not right, let alone customer friendly.

One of the printers occasionally wrinkles the pages when doing 2 sided printing. Since I don't do it often I haven't tried to solve this problem, but it probably shouldn't happen in a printer that has only been used for 5,000 pages.

Net, I wouldn't buy this printer again. Not worth the hassle.

Thanks for commenting. The problem of wrinkling when printing both sides is quite common, especially in the more humid areas of the country. What happens is that the printed page after the first side is printed becomes a little warped (won't lay flat anymore) from humidity being steamed out of it during the fusing process. When the second side is printed, the sheet wrinkles because the waves and ripples prevent it from going through the fusing section smoothly. One common way to prevent this is to store your printer paper in a sealed plastic container or large ziplock bag where it can't absorb humidity, then using that paper when duplex printing. It's a bit of a hassle, but may help with your wrinkling problem. I worked in the office machines industry for many years and have seen this literally thousands of times. In the vast majority of cases, it was related to paper absorbing ambient moisture prior to being printed. When it only happens on duplex 2nd side, that's the problem virtually all of the time. The less you print, the longer the time that paper in the feed drawer sits out and collects moisture, amplifying the problem. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your comment. As I said, I have 2 of these machines. One is in Florida and the other in Virginia. Only the one in Florida has the wrinkling problem, so it is probably what you described. When I do 2 sided printing in Florida I will change the paper.

Thank you for the valuable information.

Why don't you just buy generic to screw them? It sounds like you had more of an issue with the toner than the printer.

I wouldn't get it just because the paper capacity is only 250 sheets. If you do high volume printing it's annoying to put in half a ream of paper. A) I don't like paper just sitting around B) I don't like changing the paper.

I think when a printer doesn't have high capacity for paper then they did a poor job of designing it for high capacity printing. I have two brother printers both are good not great but they are plugging away for years now with minimal issues. Brother toner is generally better than generic but I buy both of them. The generics you get exploded toner (it's happened twice) but they are less than half the cost as brother toner (maybe around a third the cost).
