After Harbor Freight's well known jack stand recall [harborfreight.com], that'd honestly be the last place I'd trust getting jack stands from again. I understand that all brands are susceptible to recalls, but jack stands are at the top of the list of items I do NOT want to fail under use.
Yeah it's on up there for me personally. If you ever get the chance to crawl under your car: lay flat, look up, then imagine whatever you're looking at coming straight down on your face. Now think about how the only thing stopping that from happening are $24 jack stands made from stamped sheet metal and half-assed booger welds.

If you're going to use cheap jacks stands of questionable quality, at least put some extra fail-safes in place before crawling under your car. Leave the jack in a location where it can support the vehicle if a stand fails. Chock the wheels. Use stands rated well above what you're supporting or double up on the stands if you have to. It's more to set up and tear down but it sure beats being crushed to death.
Oh well then please enlighten me as to what I should be doing if not for what was described in the second half of my reply.

Who is this "we" you speak of? How is adding "fail-safes" as I described the improper way of ensuring you are safe while under a car? What single object providing "absolute support" are you talking about?

One of the Oxford dictionary definitions of a fail-safe is:

I can hardly see how adding additional precautions to ensure you are not crushed by failing jack stands is bad advice. Remember, we're talking about $24 jack stands here. What kind of absolute support can you expect from something made at that price point?

Some complains about them not being flat and wobbling. My Torin Big Red jack bent/deformed recently so I'll probably look at a different brand.

I don't trust woot! They sell bad products. I'd go to Harbor Freight for jacks in general. That have good products at good price plus you can always use the monthly coupons.

I agree. I went completely overkill when I bought jack stands (I bought those beefy 22 ton stands that are typically for farm equipment). Some would say it's a waste of money, but there are plenty of other areas where I can save money.

Though I do think Harbor Freight's jacks are fine. I bought one of their Daytona jacks and so far I like it.

A site manager bought about four of this jacks for a job, we did not happen to use them so I took one home. It was riding in the back of my van til we happened to needed for a different job and when I took it out of the plastic case it had hydraulic oil all over the place. I ended up not using so I would not recommend, since it failed before even it's first use.

Better if you can find this which comes with 2 jack stands. Some Walmarts have them for $17.
