At today's GPU prices ($700+ for the RTX 3060) this is a great deal!

Eh, you can get 3060 new on ebay for $650, probably less locally. I can get 3070s for $800 locally. (Took a time out writing this cause zotac store had full stock, 3060 was 599)

AMD 3700x is old and sucks for online multi-player gaming with bad .1% and 1% lows vs intel chips = lags and dips in performance.

Everything else in this build is likely cheap/lower end.

If I was doing a budget build, I'd go 12400+b660 for $350, $599 zotac 3060, whatever cheap 16gb ddr4 and 2tb ssd $200, psu/case...and at roughly the same price with a brand new chip, 2tb ssd and probably better components overall.

Actually the CPU you referenced ranks lower (19333) than the 3700x (22757) on CPUbenchmark.net. I am yet to hear that the 3700x sucks.
If the price of the CPU is $300 and the GPU goes for $700+ we are already at $1000.
I still think it is a great deal at this price and you do not have to build it. Plug in, power up and enjoy.

Asus makes great products IMO.

The 12400 does seem to have an advantage in games...

Well kind of expected for a CPU that just got released...
I still think the overall deal price is great, for someone not looking to build their own rig

Exactly. Intel had the lead in gaming until ryzen 5000 series. Now 12xxx series retook the crown. I'm no fanboi, im still rocking a 5.0ghz all core 9700k with my rtx3080...but I have a 5600x sitting here sealed i got on a deal (also have a z590 aorus master mobo that was bundled with my 3080 🙄). Thinking of dumping both for a 12th gen setup and just use my 32gb ddr Samsung b-die as tests show good ddr4 is not really slower than ddr5 at the moment.

Okay, the 3700x doesn't suck, but buying one at this date makes zero sense. It was fine for single player and non competitive games, but once you're playing to win in something like... pubg, a massive open world shooter where it can easily be 12-16 players shooting, fragging, smoking, driving vehicles...AMD pre 5000 series would lag out and drop under 60fps while 5.0ghz intel K chips would hold the line and not lag out.

The $200 i5-12400 with a $135 b660 motherboard is the best gaming performance for the money right now. But, I would honestly drop to an older 11400 with a cheaper motherboard to get a 3070 over a 3060...assuming gaming is the objective.

I just got an i5-12400 and B660-Plus Prime board from Micro Center today. The 12400 is on sale for $169 and the board was $139. I got $20 off for the cpu/mobo combo and another $25 coupon from the build showcase promo they're running.

All in all, I paid $280.88 after tax. Not a bad deal! I've heard great things about the performance of the 12400, and how it edges out even the 5600x in gaming.
