#1. Get a phone number (to be safe, from a non T-Mobile provider) that is in a new area code that isn't anywhere near where you live or have ever lived. This way you should get very few wrong numbers (because the odds of it being a recycled number are low) and if scammers try the "call from a local number" trick...well it's not a local number to you, so you can ignore.

#2. Port number to Google Fi and get the promotion. Make sure the Google Fi sim sees some use for the next 120 days. Schedule a call once every other Sunday from the Google Fi number. The Google Fi sim MUST be in the S21 when you make these calls, do NOT put it in another phone.

#3. If T-Mobile lets you use an esim in the S21, you're all set. You can keep the Google Fi sim in the sim tray and use T-Mobile as an esim. Make sure to set esim as primary for everything (calls, texts, data). If you can't use T-Mobile as an esim, then you'll need to swap the sims every so often, so Google sees that the S21 is active on their service. Note that even if it was possible to activate Google Fi as an esim on the phone, I wouldn't until the 120 days is up. Reason being is that others have had issues with other providers because they (providers) are looking for a specific IMEI, which is IMEI1 and is the one for the physical sim. You're asking for trouble if you assume the system knows that two different IMEIs are for the same phone.

#3.5. Assuming you get dual sim working (physical sim for Google Fi and esim for T-Mobile), the Google Fi number would be great to use as a burner line for things like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Tinder, etc. If you start getting a lot of nuisance calls, just do an unconditional forward to a junk Google Voice number you have.

Let us know if this actually works.
If you're mostly on wifi and don't use a lot of data then Google Fi can be cheap alternative. They do have unlimited plans but it's expensive. Google Fi is great for those that use under 2GB of data. Me and my wife average $60 a month for two lines.
The plan is $20 at least and it will be $25ish after tax.

Assuming I want to use this phone on my current T-Mobile plan could I open a separate account on Google Fi with the $25/month plan just to keep open for 120 days? How would I get a number to port to Google Fi if I want to keep on my current plan?

eBay is your friend! For numbers to port in, used to be able to get as cheap as $3, right now I see several in the $15-$20 range, e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/22480492...SwmOVh41wj

Seems like the base $20 plan has no data included. So if I use any data at all, it's $30 + tax per month?
