980 Pro, you need gen 4
If you get out Crystal diskmark you'll see that having a heatsink improves transfer speeds in all brands because it avoids thermal throttling. I exclusively buy Samsung drives and have seen it plenty on 970, 970 Evo plus and an older oem model pm651 I believe. Samsung is reliable and heatsinks aren't needed for integrity, but some brands like WD with older firmware actually fail their current tasks when they get too hot. My recollection is that they fixed it later with firmware updates that throttle the drive. So without question a heatsink is best if you have room inside your case and or laptop.

Was it this one or the 980 pro that works with the PS5?

Looks like you can't buy a 970 EVO with a heatsink from Samsung?

Is this any good to use for caching in a NAS setup? I'm trying to set up a QNAP TS-h973ax.

Most use cases don't require a heat sink and it just increases the cost/price. There are tons of aftermarket options available, if you feel that you need one.

I went with the WDS850 2TB and a separate $10 heat sink. Perfect fit.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought four years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-128TB.

Digitimes: Samsung new NAND flash capacity coming online in 2H21 may worsen price falls.

Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.

interesting point you made. i want to say that sk hynix P31 series shouldn't have this problem as their ssd run relatively cool and is ideal for laptop use.

Ordered on Black Friday. Didn't receive it until after the new year.

I would buy elsewhere...
