note that while this is a good price, Samsung is about to release a new version of tthis tablet with Android 12.

https://tabletmonkeys.com/samsung...let-leaks/

I have the A8 (the kids edition without the kids software), and aside from my hating Samsung's failure to update the tablet, my real problems with it are the lack of a USB-c charger (forcing me to carry around a micro usb cable). and the relatively slow wifi.

the A7 lte's switch to USB-c did fix one of my concerns, but it still has the slow ac wifi. I'm hoping the new one besides coming with Android 12, will have wifi6. We will see.

Do not get this, while the tablet is functional the screen resolution is not great as well as the blue tint. While it is usable the low ram makes it just enough for it to be an inconvenience to use. While I wouldn't go out of my way to return it. I wish I would have spent more getting a decent tablet I wouldn't regret having.

You probably know this, but there are tiny plug adapters on Amazon and a certain auction site that is probably still censored here that turn micro-USB into USB-C... should be really cheap too

I have a Galaxy Tab 4 7" from 2014 -- yah, that old Smilie About 90% of my use was for reading Amazon kindle books on many plane trips for work. Since I didn't travel during the pandemic I took it out for first time in 2+ years last week to find that, essentially, it's not supported anymore and so I can't update the OS or the apps....effectively, useless.

No worries. It's ancient, I know Smilie

Thoughts on whether this tablet in the OP would be suitable for kindle reading on a plane (all content to be downloaded to tablet prior to boarding plane)?

I assume these will take SD cards for storage?

I'm thinking of a Kindle reader/Fire, tho as a "Samsung House" I do appreciate the platform, as much as it is not a requirement.

Thanks!

Are you sure you are perhaps referring to the Galaxy Tab A 8"? Not the Galaxy Tab A8? They are completely different tablets. The A8 was just released a few months ago (January 2022), is a 10" class screen, and definitely has USB-C. The most recent Galaxy Tab A 8" (tons of different models released in years past) was released in summer 2019. You may even have an older Tab A version.

I have the A7 Lite -- my primary purpose is for reading as well.

As far as tablets go, it's SLOW. That being said, once you open up an app, it's pretty fluid, with the exception of Chrome. It's really laggy switching between tabs, browsing, etc. The Kindle app seems to be fine. I do have the 64GB version with 4GB RAM (32GB version only has 3GB RAM).

I have it primarily, because like you, we are a Samsung house -- phones, tablets, home automation, etc.

My only other grip is that the covers (I have both an official Samsung book cover and Spigen) so not turn off the screen when you close it and turn it on when you open it. Seems to lack the magnetic sensor of it's superior siblings. That means constantly pressing the power button to turn on/off.

If what you are saying is true... why are you not getting a ink reader?

But the tablet that I may get in a few days is the HP 11" Chromebook tablet that is $600 on sale for $300 and I am hoping for a $100 coupon to make it $200.

Guy who said the new A8 has microusb is wrong. I just got one for my son and it is USB-C as expected for 2022 devices. He obviously has an older model tablet.

Please don't buy this! I received one for free with a t-mobile promo, and it wasn't worth the price of tax I had to pay, it's a horrible unit. Slow and 1990s resolution.

Just no!!

What is ac WiFi too slow for? It seems like ac standard should easily stream and game.

We bought this tablet for our small child to watch cartoons and play games. He seems to be enjoying it pretty well so far. The battery can last almost an entire day of being on (which I think is pretty good). We were able to create a kid's user account and restrict access to certain apps. No regrets with our purchase. I think we got it for around $130 a few months ago from Best Buy.
