me: Wallet is the the time we upgrade the projector!?
Wallet: Did you get a raise?

In all seriousness this looks like a good deal on a name brand. I saw the other one for 2k a couple days ago and was real close to pulling the trigger.

I went through every 4k (true and pixel shift) projector under $10k and this was the only UST I was considering if it hit this price. Bomaker, Wemax, etc. are enticing entries but iffy support and other issues like fixed focus and coil whine made me worried.

I did end up buying one of these and am stoked to try it out.

How would this projector compare to the new VAVA Chroma? I know they Both are in different price range but which UST projectors are worth considering for around $2k-$3k range?

IMO, the Optoma is the only one worth considering when it hits $2300. Here's a comparison between the Vava 4k and the P2:

https://www.projectorscreen.com/b...r-Shootout

You'll see that it outperforms it in basically every category except distance needed from the wall. That is one of the downsides I've found but I can deal with it. The other is that to use the gaming mode for slightly better response time, it disables warp correction (think keystone adjustment). So if you don't have it perfectly set physically, the screen will be a bit off when you use gaming mode.

All that said, I'm not an intense gamer and the response time without gaming mode has been great for Mario Kart and Zelda on Switch.

All in all, very happy with the P2.

That's correct, because that's the Vava 4k. The new one is $3500 and called the Vava ALPD 4.0:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/vava...Id=6489519

Preliminary reviews look great, but we're also talking $1200 more than the P2 from a less experienced manufacturer with only 1 year of warranty vs the 2 the P2 comes with.

Edit: apologies, mikebpi was asking about the Chroma (ALPD 4.0). Vs the Vava 4k I think it's pretty clear but vs the Chroma it might warrant the $1200 premium over the P2.

The dude you replied to very specifically asked for a comparison with the VAVA Chroma not the one you linked

Ah ah, you're right! My bad for sure. Sorry, @mikebpi. I don't have the Vava Chroma so I can't comment, but based on the reviews I've watched, I think $1200 seems like a reasonable ask for the upgrade to picture quality. $3500 is much more than I am willing to spend, so the P2 at $2300 was the obvious choice.

Have you gotten it yet? Assuming you have, what are your thoughts now that you have gotten to use it a bit?

When you say went through all other projectors, you mean you tried them? I purchased the PX1 Pro from the deal last week for a similar price. It's triple laser and everyone raves about the quality but I have nothing else to compare it against. I was curious if a 3000-3500 lumen model like the P2 would be better for daytime use. Any thoughts?

Overall, I really like it. At $2300 I think it's a pretty solid deal. The only 2, "issues," I have are 1) the UI for menus/settings is trash but once you've set picture settings you're rarely there and 2) like basically all USTs, you really have to nail physical placement of the projector to minimize picture calibration through software which can mess with focus.

Love the picture quality, low to no noticeable fan noise, and if you need the speakers on the projector they're very respectable!

Edit: I should add that stands can be annoying for USTs. We didn't want to spend insane money on a cabinet, so I took a pine board and cut it to size, then got some 6" preturned legs and assembled that to make a mini table. We'll be painting it to match the sound bar stand and like it quite a bit! Here's a pic of the front setup:

Was very interested in the PX1 PRO but couldn't justify the extra $1k at this point. If I saw any rainbowing or speckle, maybe, but I haven't seen that in the slightest with the P2.

I had a very low budget 1080p projector that was the reason for this upgrade, tried the LG HU70LAB and couldn't stand the lack of dynamic range (blacks were atrocious, any remotely dark scene was unwatchable), and was pretty dead set on the Cinemax P2 if it dropped to $2300 after watching every review I could for long throw and UST 4K projectors.

If you're going to be using the projector in a room with any kind of ambient light, I'd recommend getting one that does 3000+ ANSI lumens or more and pairing with an ALR screen. I have a pitch black basment and turn the brightness down a bit, actually, but if you're in a room with windows and want to watching during the day, I hope you have blinds/drapes and and ALR screen. The PX1 PRO with an ALR screen might do it, too.
