The tablet has a really bad resolution that's noticeable, as well as a nasty blue tint that you can sort of neutralize with the night mode. the tablet is slow enough for it to be an inconvenience. You will hardly want to use it. Compared to most modern devices the device although thin and sleek and usb c feels like it's 10 years old. I bought it exclusively for YouTube and the delay for rotation and low display quality made it useless for that. Wouldn't recommend it for text either I just can't honeslt find a use for it.
Slow tablet but maybe ok for this price. Amazon's 10 inch tablet performs much better for $110 on sale, screen much better too.
Picked up one of these but in the 4GB/64GB variant for use as a dedicated music source to Bluetooth speakers and for that purpose it has been perfect! Much nicer to hand this device for picking music to drunk friends at a party than my $1K+ iPhone 13! I also slapped a 256GB microSD card in it and filled that up with mp3s for a couple camping trips where there was no cellular coverage for Spotify. Performed perfectly!

this tab is only widevine l3... so watching netflix you can only get 480p... would stay clear of this tab. I think for $50 it would be fine tho... fire tabs are way better.. and it's 99$ for the fire hd10 rn

Is HD10 sufficient or would it be better to get HD 10 Plus? I'd like to get it for media playback (YouTube, prime, Netflix, Disney+), Kodi, and some light gaming.

The extra RAM on the 10+ is nice if you don't want to close apps or have them reload when you swap between them (like if you're watching/playing something and want to reply to a chat or look something up real quick). I've really enjoyed the 10+ and think it's worth the $20.
But if you only run one app at a time the 10 should be good.
Honestly better off getting the child a fire tablet, as they are roughly all below 100.
AFAIK I needed to root my kindle fire to get the YouTube app + Google account stuff working properly. A real drag for a device that only sucks a little bit less. For prime video and other stuff available on the Kindle without rooting, the Kindle does make sense vs this.

I'm not gonna pretend like Fire Tablets are the Beez Neez, they are crap. But the 1 place they excel at is being great for children as they are only a $40 dollar investment (and some designed with a literal kid protective case). Theres some fairly simple work arounds (and youtube videos) to get youtube on a fire tablet.
