I bought the 3050 version a few weeks back for slightly less and have been very happy with it. I have no issues with the screen at all. Only annoyance I have is the lack of a bracket to mount a 2nd M.2 drive. Other than that I am very happy with the laptop.
You do realized that we are talking about sub-$700 laptop, right? Use external calibrated monitor, especially if you claimed to be a designer.
Or get more expensive panel with better coverage.
Then check other "excellent" laptops in that price range. Asus TUF has exactly same crappy screen as default configuration. Once again - not a single graphic designer will be looking for color accuracy from laptop in that price range. Period.
15" is a minimum real estate we can talk about. If we are talking about graphic design.

Looks like all the codes have expired to get it a bit cheaper. Still not a bad deal for a rock solid gaming laptop.

The Amex Offers $120 off 599+ deal is only for select customers. That should be in the description. I have 10% off with Amex at Dell, which isn't bad, but not the same thing.

In my personal experience, while the response time is a little slow, the colors are fine for regular people who don't use $1000 phones and TVs. I personally can't tell the difference between it and a 100% srgb laptop screen other than the other screen looking somewhat better but not markedly different, brightness is more important to me and this screen goes up to around 280 nits in real usage.

Unfortunately, Dell has horrendous screens in all their laptops under $1000, and even higher. I would be happy to get a Dell, except for the crappy screens. I do web design, so a 250 nit non-sRGB accurate panel is out of the question. HP for Pete's sake has much better screens than Dell! I don't know what they are thinking. Plus, Dell refuses to be upfront about the screen specs in its descriptions.

I do use an external monitor at my desk. That doesn't work well away from it. There are laptops with excellent screens in the same price range, notably the HP Pavilion Aero 13 that is on Slickdeals right now, which I'm considering. Asus makes several laptops with excellent screens under $1000.

The bottom line is that Dell is cheap. There's no excuse for a 250 nit 42% NTSC panel on a gaming laptop. They're competing with MSI for worst screens on budget laptops.

If you find awful screen acceptable because it's a sub $1000 laptop, that's fine, but lots of people expect better.

Firstly, I'm not a graphic designer, I'm a web designer. Secondly, I use a workstation and an LG 4K Ultrafine monitor for work which color accurate. However, I need a backup computer and something I can take with me when I'm away from my workstation, ergo I need a decent screen. Full sRGB coverage is a reasonable expectation from a laptop.

Yes, but in this price range talking about NTSC coverage is a nonsense. sRGB around 80 is more realistic.

Could you please provide a link to the "laptops with excellent screens" with otherwise comparable specs? I'm ready to pull the trigger.

How much more you wanna pay? A "good" screen will cost you several hundreds of dollars. I have seen this screen is not bad. Its not dark its very bright. Its just not colorful. Dell pushes these 120hz 40 percent color screens to maintain margins on their high end laptops. I wouldnt be surprised if they pay more for these custom sh**** screens then they would for a 300hz 100% srgb panel. This is by design. Settling isn't terrible.

The Pavilion Aero also does not come with a discrete GPU or 15 inch screen. This is a GAMING laptop, that is a general-purpose laptop, they're in two different price tiers and categories, therefore they should not be cross-compared unless you don't know what you're looking for...

You can get a free one shipped to you from dell.

I messaged them through the dell website. After some back and forth emails including a miscommunication where they wanted to send a rep to my house to "fix" my laptop lol, they sent me the bracket at no cost. Worked out really well.
