The lowest Asus AX that support Merlin are AX-56 and AX-58 for now. I think Your AC86 should still provide speeds better to what these lower end AX endpoints provide.

and a good upgrade over a reliable wireless AC router (won't mention brand / model - its just been my experience with it after like I dunno 6 or 7 years with it at least)
I think they have a 30 day return, which would be tomorrow, so I will probably take these back.

Had an AX55, and it was giving me all sorts of instability. Downgraded (sidegraded?) To a refurb t.mo AC1900, and it has been performing great. So no, I would not recommend upgrading.
