The rest of your argument is a claim that the US EPA standard is too aggressive, which is an entirely different discussion altogether, but does nothing to refute the accuracy of the device or whether mitigation actually works to reduce indoor radon levels (which again is well established.)
As for changing standards over time, we have plenty of evidence for how long it took for smoking to be considered as dangerous as it now is today. Some people are more likely to err on the side of caution while others prefer to throw caution to the wind. Regardless, if you are interested in checking indoor radon levels, this is a good device despite all your unsupported contentions to the contrary.

What kind of readings were you getting before you decided to do the radon mitigation?

The biggest issue I had was that the numbers in the basement were actually the same as the rest of the house
I used a test kit 1-2 times a while back and I was on the border 4 level.

I'd say you need it because the $15 tests are really more like $40 if you want the results. How far apart were the 2 tests you ran? What season? So many variables that for the leave of mind this provides it's worth it especially if your short terms tests were borderline high.
For me I did 4 tests at home and said what a waste of money. Partially because the second and third ones I had to throw away due to a cat knocking one of the vials over and then working long hours and not being able to seal it up in time.

Winter time with everything closed up I was seeing almost 4 in the basement. I'm currently moving this thing around my house now room by room one week at a time. So far levels are really low everywhere else. I'll probably still do the mitigation eventually anyways
