Seems like a lot of people are buying this product without a real need for it... Saw a guy on Reddit post about this with a 100/10 internet package and a modem that can handle 2Gigs down.
What is the typical use-case for this? I consider myself an enthusiast, built my own rack, ran 2k feet of Cat6, 1gig fiber, 48-port gigabit switch, ER-4 and 3 AC Lite's in my home. I consider that overkill, at least for home use, so I'm genuinely curious who is buying all the Dream Machines.

imo, It's about convenience. Like buying a synology for your home rather than building up your own with Freenas or similar. You could put together a PFsense box, going down that rabbit hole to get all the packages you want, add a switch, etc. Or you could just buy this one appliance and get "mostly" the same level of performance.

I use their cameras and UDMP works as a NVR as well.

I use UDM Pro for NVR and UI Protect. I have 15 cameras, the CloudKey Gen 2 was slow and got very hot. Upgraded to UDM Pro n everything was smooth
I just have a doorbell camera and my Synology NAS handles everything and I use a Rpi 3B to handle the Unifi controller. I suppose I can see the appeal of having everything in one, they just need to make it 48 2.5gig ports and I'm down :-)
