is this even a good deal? can't you get a 1/2 impact dewalt for under $120 most of the time?
No, not this one and not with that battery. The outgoing 894 that gives something like 400 off/600 on has gone down to $90 tool only. The "lowest" 12v 1/2" is $150. This is the 899 which gives something like 800 off/1200 on and the battery itself is around $90. The aforementioned 894 has been replaced by the 891 and is getting rave reviews being midtorque sized with power very close to this high torque 899. It's $230 tool only. All that being said this is a good deal for someone who needs the power this tool provides. This 899 is supposed to be replaced with the 900 later this year with even higher specs and may make this 899 go cheaper. Keep in mind most passenger and light truck lugs only go up to 150ft/lbs. But with any power tool it's better to have it and not need it, yadda yadda yadda

So is this really $600 regular
.
Only if you buy it from Mac tools with the Mac logo. What Mac does have is a nice rubber cover for the tool and another for the battery.... for a price.

The idiot that compared the new 891 to this 899 had this 899 in low range and running about half the capable power. Not sure what he was smoking that day, as he had done a review a year earlier where the 899 put out almost twice the power. He seemed more interested in playing with batteries.
Actually, this DCF899 is rated at 700 ft/lbs on and 1200 ft/lbs off (more than their 3/4" drive) that compares to Milwaukee's best and Harbor Freight's Earthquake.... and of course, Mac tools that is a rebranded DeWalt 899. It is the off or breakaway that is the most important.... well, unless you have left handed threads.
We own two of these and gave two away to family members. Granted, it was two years ago that we paid $199 at Lowes for the tool and 5amp battery, but I don't remember if they came with a charger and bag.
Perhaps the DCF900 will have more power and perhaps they will just add some nonsense like blue tooth. What they could add is a switch to turn the light off when not needed. In fact, they could do that with all their tools.
Be sure to check the model number. This isn't the XR kit (DCF899M1). This is the older model based, on the model number listed on the website. The pictures show the XR version though

Eric, it says what it is.... DCF899B / DCB205CK .....
The DCF899B is bare 899 tool with the 'B' and the DCB205CK is the 5amp battery (DCB205), charger (C) and bag as a kit (K).
The DCF899M1 is the same, but both as a DeWalt kit. If it had two 5amp batteries, it would be DCF899M2.
It can get confusing with all the different numbers and sometimes you just have to visit DeWalt.com to see what they are. And often enough, their own super slow site has not been updated, or deleted what you are searching for.
