Okay, fair enough. 80 Ohm can be driven okay with motherboard outputs. I would say barely, but it will work, and it depends on your motherboard's internal components. My kid was skeptical too, until he got a Q4 for his Audio Technicas. It didn't hurt that I paid for it 😂 IMO, if you are going to spend $100 on headphones that are normally $150, definitely spend that savings on the headphone amp. There is no way you'll be disappointed. Just my opinion, of course. Do you, and relative to your budget. I'd get the headphones even if I couldn't afford the extra for a headphone amp at the moment.
Hope that helps.
"Lastly, the impedance (80 ohms) pretty much require a headphone amp to drive them well"
Disagree. Most modern smart devices have enough amperage to get 99% of what these cans can do, especially if they're using a USBC to 3.5mm adapter.

It's also worth noting that if you're using onboard audio, the impedance rating is usually only good for the rear audio jack and typically you have to enable a "high impedance" setting in the driver software to take advantage of it.
As someone who has owned the 990, 880 and 770, I guess its obvious but the 880 sits nicely between the other 2. If gaming I'd lean towards the 770 for the bass. Music I like the 880. I found the 990 to be ear piercing. It's one of the only pair of headphones I've ever gotten rid of.
Yea I have the 990s now and they may as well be apart of my funko pop collection as they never get used. Everyone seems to point me towards the 880s as a replacement
In for one.
Thanks OP.
