Companies that produce formula are also major influencers of decisions, have lobbying power, etc. US regulation of formula is expensive. Imported formula isn't subject to US regulation, and therefore leaves US formula producers upset.
I've seen a few articles that mention the US blocks European imports of baby formula, that in many cases have a better nutritional value, because the labels don't meet our requirements. Also that having only 3 primary producers in the US allows them to control supply and pricing. It's tough to know if these articles are providing all of the details or omit things to serve a political agenda. If anybody has links to unbiased data please share.
It's as easy as asking a pediatrician for iron drops. European born kids with "less iron" in their formula still grow up to be functional adults.

Usually have no issue with flipping. Formula is a whole other ballgame though. This isn't TP or Paper towels.

I wonder why the US is blocking European formula.

There's a 17.5% import duty for formula into the US that protects the US manufacturers. That's why we don't a ton of imported baby formula.

I just saw a 2 pack of this on eBay for $54 plus shipping. Crazy times.

It's the iron level, Europe's doesn't meet requirements. Also, European manufacturers are not exporting to the US, so no formula goes through FDA.

Not subject to 17.5% import tax if you're buying formula from overseas and importing it for your own personal use.

This may have some truth to it. Do you realize that very few of the items that are completely legal to sell in the US are banned in the UK and other European countries because they have to be approved by the food and drug governing bodies? Food and supplements have to be submitted for approval and cleared before they can be sold. Here we just say the item is not approved by the FDA and is not intended to cure or treat disease or ailments. You really think countries with such stringent food policies would have baby formula that is unsafe for US consumption? Rather than speculate, can someone provide a link to a credible source that cites specific economic reasons we can't import formula or increase production in the US?

I saw recently that customs was confiscating formula coming from outside of the US.
