This allows you to add airplay2 to almost any audio receiver. There are many benefits to airplay2 including better connectivity, and being able to multicast to multiple airplay2 devices in sync at the same time. I've been waiting for a deal like this for a while and this is the best deal according to CCC.

I don't think airports support airplay2 just airplay.
AirPort Express firmware update has added AirPlay 2 and Home app support. With Firmware Update 7.8 for the AirPort Express, the device now appears in Apple's Home app and as an AirPlay 2 target in much the same way as the Apple TV and HomePod.

Airport express is pretty cool, and it is neat that they added the support. $30 is great if you can find it and for that price. Nice thing about the belkin is it is a smaller box (about the size of box of matches) about the 1/4 of the size of the express, usb powered and supports 802.11 AC as well as the other wireless standards that the airport does.
Gotta love Slickdeals. Read through the comments, remembered that somewhere in the basement must be an old AirPort Express. Sure enough, found it, dusted it off, it's a 1st Gen A1264. Plugged it in, updated the firmware to 7.8.1 and look at that, it works. Thanks everyone! Talk about saving money.
$70 is pretty steep for something equivalent to Chromecast Audio.
Used Airport Express + 3.5mm optical adapter cable is overall cheaper and has a surprisingly good DAC. It also has ethernet and can pass through another wired device. It can also be administered from any Mac on the network with Airport Utility. Also diverting away from landfill is also a bonus.
Much better to just pick up an old Airport express for 20-30 bucks ...
I used an Airport Express exclusively for AirPlay 2, and found it a bit glitchy - not always connecting and/or dropping connection, even when hardwired.
I picked up this Belkin 2 years ago and it's been rock-solid.
