Just my opinion:
buy a $7 tackle-box and then fill it with items that will actually help someone in an emergency, as you can afford them / when they go on sale. A tourniquet. Suture set. Large sterile bandages. Alcohol / Peroxide / Povidone-Iodine. Safety pins, Medical tape. Duct tape. Forceps. Sterile disposable scalpels. Medical grade "krazy glue". Ace-bandgaes. Multiple instant ice packs. Disposable lighter. Lollipops (seriously). Many better lists out there .. just trying to make the point.
Ben-Gay, band-aids, and anti-itch cream isn't going to do a lot of "first-aid".

While I agree an actual pieced together kit is ideal, first aid does not necessarily mean a trauma kit.

If you've got kids around the house the "first aid" they will need is a little anagelasic (neosporin), a bandaid, or an anti itch cream.

I still keep my sawyers trauma kit handy from my forest service days in my camera backpack, never touched it. A proper trauma kit could save a life, but a small kit like this with every day items is going to be used far more often.
