I am in the same boat looking for 50 gal, and thought someone might be looking for 40 gal hence the post. I don't really care about the down vote but maybe someone found it useful to save 20% For original price.
I only have a 2 person household so I don't need more than a 40 gallon but it seems silly not to try to wait for a sub 1k sale on this or the 50 gallon even.

Do you think they will be on sale below 1k again in the future? I wanna buy one but 1.3k+ Tax is not that attractive consider it was the full price not long ago.

Even the normal electric ones have gone up so much.
One possible way to get the "net" cost lower is to research local electric utility company rebates. Mine offers 50% off up to $500 on heat pump water heaters. Must be 40 gallons or more.

Unfortunately, my Utility only offers rebates if installed by a certified and approved installer. Really irritating.
