Best Buy has recalled multiple Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens after reports of overheating. "These include seven reports of minor property damage and two reports of injuries, including an injury to a child's leg," the CPSC said.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday there have been 68 reports from US consumers and 36 reports from Canadian consumers of the air fryers catching fire, burning or melting.
United States
Air Fryers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, and NS-AF55DBK9
Air Fryer Ovens: NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1
Canada
Air Fryers: NS-AF32MBK9-C, NS-AF50DBK0-C, NS-AF50MBK9-C, NS-AF53MSS0-C, and NS-AF55DBK9-C
Air Fryer Ovens: NS-AFO6DSS1-C
Insignia is Best buy's brand. I don't believe they are that foolish to sell the items that they themselves are recalling. But I see why you think that way, I bought one that looks just like this which was part of the recall
But this model is very similar to the recalling one,so…I think this still has the risk.
.
Have not had any houses burn down from this one, yet. If just cooking 10 minutes or so, like the recalls, these do not get terribly hot. If cooking longer, you need to keep an eye on the sides, as it will melt things like a plastic bread bag and although the bottom is about 1/2" from the counter by the plastic molded corners, watch out for potentially scorching a counter top like Formica... it does get warm.
When new, the 'drawer' is easy to push in all the way to click closed. After a short time, unless the machine is against the back wall, you have to hold the machine while pushing the drawer in to close all the way. If closer to the front edge of the countertop, do not let the drawer the basket sits in to sit out half way, or it will slide all the way out and potentially onto the floor.
One cannot expect too much for $50, but they get the job done without turning on the oven. And unless an air fryer oven, these are exponentially faster that saves on the utility bill. Just keep an eye on it....
Just a warning for those that are using the recalled models just keep an eye on it and knock on wood. My experience today had one that was doing a normal 10 minutes cook nothing special all of a sudden it started smelling like melted plastic unplugged it and the power cord was even warm. Hadn't planned on returning it until now.
