Not sure why this knife is so cheap. Currently selling on Amazon for $136.12. Made in USA and the second best selling made in USA folding knife on www.smkw.com when I sorted. Says it goes for $219.99 retail on their site.
Just picked one up. I was a little disappointed with a previous Smith & Wesson knife, but it wasn't their highest quality line either. This looks really nice...we'll see.

Nah, it's the steel. Steel is decent but not high end. $50 or so seems about right. Agree, I'm not seeing why the MSRP is so high, possibly production and QC in USofA.
They're probably just trying to get rid of them. The Homeland Folder is normally a $30 knife, but this is a special edition that matches their performance center gun line up. The "normal" ones have 440C blades and this has 14C28N with the fancy blue and black performance center markings. Probably would make an okay gift for someone who has one of the guns, but I wouldn't be in any hurry to add it to my collection.
This is supposed to be a limited run collector's knife that's selling for 1/5 of the msrp. That in itself should be statement on this particular knife.
I agree that the steel is the biggest issue. From what I read 14C28N is chemically very close to AUS8. AUS8 is/was a great steel from Japan 20 years ago. Since then there are a lot of newer better "super" steels made. It is roughly equivalent to the American made 440B. Again a decent steel but is found on $20$-$40 knives.
I think the big MSRP number was for the pretty presentation and limited run. For $100-$200 you can get alot better knife. For $41, I think is it's priced right.

Was the knife numbered, or just the case it came in?
Sorry, I mean I just placed the order last night. I will come back during a reply though once it comes in
Thanks... Made in Columbia, MO, this is one of the few S&W that was not now made in Asia. I almost ordered, but limited to a 1,000 total and still selling everywhere, it threw up a flag. Those sold and selling on eBay by various sellers do not even have the number in the box as the original, but perhaps they are using a stock photo.

A lot of the knives you find on Ebay are clones. Wouldn't touch any of them unless they're from a legit retailer.

I don't know why anyone would go to the expense of cloning a cheap knife with presentation box, but I could believe the distributor is still producing what is supposed to be a limited supply.

They're probably producing the clone knives with box for $5 or less in China. So there's a lot of money that can be made, especially if people believe they're the real deal. This happens with a lot of brands. I mean you can even go on the Chinese factory direct retail sites and find a lot of "name brand" clones
S&W sold its name to Taylor Cutlery, all their knives are made in China. There is no enough info regarding this particular model, $42 with 14C28N which is on par with AUS-8, I would say you are paying premium for made in USA selling point.
