Get used to that. HomeKit requirements contain additional processes and encryption hardware that many manufacturers do not bother with it. You need to get Made for IPhone certified and have an additional hardware encryption chip which adds cost. I'm all Apple except for HomeKit. The compatibility is awful, unfortunately.

Thank you! Got 3 and applied the 20% off Amex which applies to the $15 price, bringing total to $4.50 each plus tax. I remember buying this a few years ago for $27! I like the Kasa ecosystem.

Has any smart bulb manufacturer addressed the light switch issue?

At the very least, a battery backup would keep most of us from having to tape the light switch in the on position half the time.

This is why I just buy their light switch instead of the lights.

I have a project I'd like to try at this price though

Not ideal, but you can install switch guards for something that looks better than tape. I use these, for example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JZWY...UTF8&psc=1

Listing all those requirements as if they're bad? I'm OK with more encryption and processes to protect privacy. Vocolink brand have worked well for a cheaper homekit brand.
