Opening and closing will eventually break a connecting wire in these. I ordered one and it worked great until the wire broke. They sent me a replacement and I just keep it in the open position and stored on the garage fridge (magnetic) when not in use.
Gone through two of these in about 18 mos. Never again.

Kinda surprised this deal got no traction (so far) at this price. This is close to an all time low on this, I believe. Actually, I just pulled the CCC and it's almost 10% less than the lowest price ever recorded by CCC. Also, I own one of these (as well as the larger one) from Thermopro. They are magnetic (stick to fridge), and use an inexpensive AAA battery (vs a button cell, for ex). I use both of my ThermoPros all the time and bought a few of them as gifts, as well.

Anywho, this appears to be the lowest price, ever.

I replaced a handful of their probes as they kept failing after only a few uses. Never had this instaread though. Maybe that's made better?

I'm a Meater plus guy so I love my wireless thermometers that I can throw in the meat and just go about my day but I still have a few of these for those specific cooks that require a lot of temperature management. (think brisket in a smoker). I use these to probe into the different cuts in multiple areas to check level of doneness. Even though most of my usage is for smoking and BBQ, it's also useful for roasting and oven use. At this price even though I have 3 others, I just purchased 2 of these. That way I can keep a couple in the kitchen, one with the smoker and a couple at the grill (cross contamination and all) lowest price on these previously was $13-14 so saving about a quarter of the lowest price ever sounds great.

Yep. Mine is broken at the opening point, the wires are still hanging on. Bought this one to replace, but intrigued how you went about replacement. Thanks

Yep, design defect. Don't close it, ever. The wire will eventually break. $10 means nothing if it will stop working while using as designed.

I have this one, probably my 3rd. Best features are waterproof, and magnetic.

If by "instant-read" you mean 10-15 seconds to read a wildly inaccurate temperature, go for it. Thermometers are one of those products - you pay for one that works, or you keep buying this and wonder why your food is never right.
