I own the 12 inch version of the saw that I purchased on an old deal for 450ish I think. These are pretty good for the price 512 as well. For a weekend woodworker I'd recommend getting this 10inch version. Some people may have noticed deflection with the blade, but it's all adjustable. If you know what you're doing it's a good buy for this price.

Yes a laser guide would be nice, but I love the axial gliding mechanism way more.

Damm I need a new saw but in a dilemma the new Dewalt is so nice with its 22.5 30 deg bevel stops it was so quick when cutting 6" bullnose corners baseboard using a friends. It has shadow line blade guide way better than lasers that need adjustments. The thing is I noticed Makita and now Metabo has copied Festool with glide rails forward and expect Dewalt to do the same. The only reason I wanted the Bosch is the zero rear clearance but forward glide rails gives you zero clearance as well.

I'll tell you... the Dewalts gave dropped in quality a LOT! The 580's (and the "used to be almost identical" 779) are getting stripped down, and Dewalt as a whole is on a "quality decline".

The Bosch is AMAZING.

And, a guy on Etsy makes a shadow line attachment for it and I was skeptical, but it's great.

Although, after using my friends Bosch Surgeon that he added high powered green lasers to, I might try to do that myself. Because the shadow line is great... unless it's in a bright environment. And even in the sun, my buddy's lasers shown up perfectly clear. But the lasers he said cost him $35 each. (There's two that run down each side of the blade, and can be adjusted easily.)

So... there's options out there now. And the days of the 580 being "The Gold Standard" for miter saws ended 4 or 5 years ago. Bosch has improved ALOT. The Makita is awesome, Festool is great, but overpriced by $700 or so. So it's really Makita or Bosch these days (unless you're one of the weirdos that need their tool colors to match each other 🤣 🤣. )

You know, the blade deflection issues are on every saw these days, as the Kerfs on the blades keep getting thinner and thinner.

The whole "a thinner blade cuts easier, and less strain on your saws motor" is really overplayed.

If you buy a good blade, a thin kerf vs full kerf has like a 0.03" thickness difference, and the weight is basically unnoticeable.

The only downfall is price is often up to 20% more for a full kerf.

I used Freud for years, and switched over to the CMT about 2 years ago, after I was gifted one of their blades. And I now only use CMT. The Chrome Carbide 96t ( midel 283.696.12 ) is amazing!!

Only having 1 arm, I rarely change out blades due to the nightmare that it is. And the CMT cuts clean thru laminate, melamine, all the way up to a 4x6 with ease. So its nice to have one blade for everything. I'd have never tried thicker cuts with a 96t in the past after having a "Freud incident" lol.

So, look into a full Kerf. It's sooo much nicer, but a but mire $

So I agree on shadow lines they don't work outside when the sun is out and I agree with Festool I'd buy it but would be afraid to put it in my truck without a special box to carry it in. So what's wrong with Dewalt 779 or 780? The only thing I didn't like that they shorten the glide rails which moves the cutting forward so you have blade teeth cutting in a upward direction in the first 1.5-2". DeWalt does so many thinks right like the bed height being 3.5" so if you set on a bench you're ready to go with 4x lumber table support. I'm still using my Hitchi that's 30 years old but all the plastic is breaking and not available anymore. I'm a general contractor so my tools actually get used.

The dewalt DWS780 currently has a stop sale and is the reason you can't find them at Lowe's or home depot anywhere https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-miter...sale-2022/
