I didn't see this posted already, so figured I'd post it for others to see.
I saw a thread with a Costco sale on a SimpliSafe system, but it didn't really fit my needs, so I went to the SimpliSafe website and saw they have a 40% off sale going on for Memorial Day. This applies to pre-configured or custom-built systems, but not to individual components. If you choose the Interactive Monitoring plan with your purchase, the discount will increase to 45% off, and you'll get your first month of monitoring for free. The plan is then $27.99/mo and you can change it at any time.
I'm not sure what their hardware prices normally are because I haven't looked into it much in the past so I don't know if they are artificially inflating their "normal" price just to show a deep discount. The system I configured had the base station and keypad, 12 entry sensors, 4 motion sensors, 4 glass break sensors, 3 panic buttons, 3 smoke detectors, 2 keyfobs, a wireless siren and an extra yard sign. The "normal" price is $903.68 and the price shown after discount is $496.88. This would be far cheaper than getting the system from Costco for $299 and adding on the other pieces I need.
The sale ends Tuesday.

...is the weakest point if the criminal even cares. Unless using a cellular system with battery backup, all internet and electrical connections are externally disabled in seconds. Should it be a dumb criminal and you or the system were able to send an alarm, the average response time by police varies, but seldom less than 10 minutes and often longer; a lot longer. If stored on the cloud or internally, some cameras are great for prosecution.... after the fact.
Convenience and Security are seldom synonymous. Home security, any security is in layers beginning from the perimeter inward.

A viable question is that if you, as in generic you, are not buying/installing a security system to help prevent break ins/home invasion, or the ability after the fact to prosecute the trespasser(s), then what are you buying one for?
A cell connection, in that the camera itself has a sim card and functions just like your cell phone when not connected to WiFi. As well, battery backup, internal storage and cloud connection for the camera itself.... that is not absolute dependent on a base station or hard drive for storage that if easily found, often removed.
Using Amazon or Google as a security system seems to be an oxymoron. They are fine for home automation if you don't mind ALL activity stored on their servers. Collecting data is what they do best and if people were not already posting the last time they petted their cat, Facebook would be into the action.
Posting the provided sign that your home is protected by such and such security system is a parable of a bear chasing two people and who can run the fastest. Perhaps the neighbor without a sign posted is potentially a better victim than you, but I would not count on that today. So far, the majority of home invasions are by people that know you, or know people that know you. If one ever experiences the trespass, they will think differently.
In conclusion, should the alarm go off at 2AM (by a dumb home invasion that did not first disable), what are you going to do? I don't think 'calling Ghost-busters' is a viable option.
Enjoy your weekend....

Also Amazon/Google doesn't store anything or work through them other than to allow you to arm the system/lock the doors by your voice. It's only the home automation side it's being used for. I find it very convenient.
