I've been using Homes and Minis for years. I haven't added one recently, but all my Groups still work. Likewise, the ones I've paired so that they operate in stereo (Google Home 1 as left speaker, Google Home 2 as right speaker) also still work. I believe the result of the lawsuit was they had to change the way you adjusted the volume on them. Prior to the lawsuit, I could adjust the volume of all groups and plus pairs in groups at once. After the lawsuit, you have to adjust the volume of each Google Home or Pair. So long story short, it's a little annoying and user experience has decreased a little, but they're still a pretty good option.
And I feel bad for the people who feel this strongly towards others for something that literally has no effect on them. Congrats on your opinion!
I will be enjoying my speakers in my wonderful patio in the meantime *in stereo*
To help clear up some confusion, there is a difference between Group and Pair in Google home. When you take two of these and pair them as stereo, it will create one Pair. That means when you adjust the volume, it will do so on both. Then there is a group where you can add individual devices as well as a pair. With the sonus lawsuit, to change the volume of group, you will need to do so for each indivual device or pair. Remember, a pair is one entity so it will adjust the volume of the 2 devices in the pair. I have a kitchen Group that has a Google hub and a Nest audio Pair (2 of these audio setup as stereo pair). I can play music on the group or on the hub or on the pair, default is the group. Hope that helps clarify better.

Dang is that true. I was gonna get these if you could play in stereo but didn't know
I don't see anything about stereo connectivity, mostly grouping devices and controlling them together it seems.

Google is removing the following features:
The ability to simultaneously control the volume of multiple speakers with a single command
The ability to adjust speaker group volume in the Google Home mobile app using your phone's physical volume controls
The ability to add new devices to the Google Home app

Throughout my household I have about 8 various google speaker devices. At first the whole home volume adjustment not being available anymore due the sonos lawsuit was a huge annoyance. Now that I don't have the option to adjust the whole house at once I really how bad of a practice it was anyways... setting every speaker regardless of room size and speaker size would cause the volume to be overwhelming in some rooms while too low in others. A google home max at 70% is a way different volume output than a mini at 70%. Think I have the sound settings where I need for each room now and if I'm playing music on my whole home it's easy enough to adjust the volume for the room I'm currently in.
They can still be paired in stereo, it was the ability to control multiple speaker volumes that was affected:
"Due to a recent legal ruling we're making some changes to how you set up your devices and [how] the Speaker Group functionality will work moving forward. If you're using the Speaker Group feature to control the volume in the Google Home app, by voice with the Google Assistant, or directly on your Nest Hub display, you'll notice a few changes:
To adjust volume on your speaker groups, you will need to adjust each speaker individually instead of using the group volume controller. You'll also no longer be able to change your Speaker Group volume using your phone's physical volume button."

Looked a bit into the Sonos lawsuit, looks like it's more volume control changes vs stereo mode. Stereo mode looks like it's still possible
