I remember Gateway from way back, not too sure about how good these systems are these days but it has great reviews. I have been researching an inexpensive laptop for while so I decided you know what ill get one and see what its like. So far I love it!! you can get this online or in the store. I got the green one but they offer other colors as well

Fyi...Looks like Linux won't run out of the box on this Gateway line. Here's a prior model having trouble with Wifi and sound.

This is actually quite good for $199. In terms of CPU performance and storage space, it beats, hands down, the Celeron N4000-series based laptops people go crazy about for $150-180.

I was able to install CloudReady on Gateway's Intel i5 11th Gen notebook but got an installation error when I tried to install Flex for some reason.

Depends what dual core and what apps your running. Maybe apps do not utilize multiple cores, so a fast dual core chip will crush a slow multi-core chip in many tasks.

My 10 year old thinkpad with a dual core CPU is more than fast enough for what 90+% of people do online. It can even play older games just fine.

My HP has this exact same dual-core processor, and while no one would call this CPU a rocket, it is plenty fast to do the usual tasks like browsing on the 'net. using Microsoft Office, playing streaming videos and all that. Granted that my HP has an 8 GB RAM, this experience of mine will probably not translate into the OP's Gateway whose RAM is stuck as it is. But you ARE jumping the gun by saying that duel-core CPUs are not up to anything today. That is simply not true.
