I ended getting the "Slammer" for my wife (no jokes please!) but it is very short and heavy (shut up!!!). not easy to manipulate with one hand or two (OMG, you people are awful!). Judging by the photos I think the "Shorty" would have the best length to girth ratio (that's what she said?) for most interpersonal encounters.

*BTW, I am being completely serious but it does sound like innuendo.

A heavy bat is terrible for defense. You want something light to get the head speed up.

I have the standard length Smasher. Works well as a regular bat, not light and fast like an aluminum one, closer to a classic wooden bat. It is pretty heavy duty, believe all the weird videos of standing and smashing with it without breaking. Just like a wood bat, the grip is improved with ... go figure, bat grip tape Smilie I have not used it for self defense. It is not the most agile weapon due to weight and length. Someone with a asp baton will be able to make it to the target a lot faster. Not sure if the shorter ones are better, but they should be. I do use it to train with extra weight compared to a boken or shinai.
