I'm a WD fan and I've successfully ordered directly through them several times in the past.
I know some of us will pounce on a tech deal, but not open the box immediately. In this case, I'd recommend you open the box as soon as possible. I hopped on the 16TB Red Pro deal a little over a month ago and the outer shipping box was undamaged. However, the drives were shipped individually without any packaging except their esd bag and some large bubble wrap between the drives, but not actually wrapped around the drives themself. The bottom line is most of the bubble wrap was popped and the drives were slamming against one another.
I believe this is fairly abnormal because in the past each drive was in an ESD bag + in its own box + there was packaging between the hard drives in the box. My only suggestion is to review your shipment as soon as you get it.
That means they just haven't tested it yet. From what I've seen they've stopped adding to that list and are pushing their drives. Redditors have said 18/20 tb works fine.
Anyone know if this will fit in a Synology? I have an older 1819+ and only documentation I can find is saying 16tb.
Checkout NASCompares on Youtube. He has tested larger drives on different brands and it reads them. The max on the ones he checked were 16TB or 18TB. I don't think any brand lists 20TB for consumer NAS so far.
