They'll probably quit releasing updates for this, it's bad especially with no security updates.

This. The Series 3 is badly outdated. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, unless maybe they only wanted to use it as fitness tracker, a glorified FitBit. If you want to use any of the features that make an Apple Watch an Apple Watch, spring for an SE, or wait for a good sale on a Series 6 or Series 7. With the new series 8 will be released in a few months, so there will be a lot of sales to clear out old stock.

I really dislike when people speak confidently about things that are so provably wrong.

It might not be a great snappy watch, but it's currently in the Apple lineup, they have an obligation for it to work and be secure for years to come.

Apple pivoted to fitness tracking BECAUSE that's what most people use the watch for.
