It struggles in a lot of way according to this review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSt_uXqEba4

It seems like it hits near the 90's in cpu and gpu temps and fans hit pretty loud. Plus as you play games, performance of the GPU keeps dropping due to the temps. That said, gosh this thing looks smexy. Why can't more "gaming" laptops look normal? Besides looks, RGB makes me feel like I am more likely to get robbed. I would much rather my machine look like some plain workhorse.

Seems like a pretty powerful ultrabook. I'd like to see it at $799.

It's smaller than my desktop GPU, by quite a significant margin.

Any Laptop, even the full sized one, hits over 90 degree during CPU + GPU Load. And this laptop is not going to perform like a big dedicated Gaming machine and you should not be even considering this if looking for a main gaming laptop. This is more of a very powerful 2-in-1 which occasional gaming capability. The main power comes when you pair this with the Asus ROG XG Mobile eGPU dock with the RTX 3080 (Laptop). Google it.

I get what you mean but I think it's acceptable to use a laptop with a 3050 game rig. A lot of people don't max things out and are fine at 1080.

Idk about most laptops having as bad of thermals. There is a channel that tracks thermals on YouTube. Google jerrodtech I think. You will find an excel sheet of noise and temps at averages, min and max.

That being said, this is a s form factor and being loud and hot isn't a surprise. I just think giving a pass and calling it a sometimes-game is a bit of a cop out. It's like saying a fiat is a sometimes-car. You know what? Saying that, maybe you have a point.

3050 is a decent card when it is configured with higher TGP, closer to its maximum value of 90W. This Laptop has a 35W-40W which is literally less than the half of the allowed value. Full sized gaming laptops like Dell G5 series, Asus TUF and ROG series, have either full powered or very close to full power of the RTX 3050.
In this laptop or some other laptops like Dell XPS 15, the GPU is configured to just 35W-40W limite and that significantly hurts the performance, over 40% sometimes. Now a days, just the name of the GPU does not mean anything, you need to check the Power level configuration. There are plenty low powered RTX 3070 laptops which get beaten by a laptop with full powered RTX 3060...and so on.

Fair enough. You made great points on the limits of this 3050 that I had not realized. To be honest I didn't think they ever went that low, 35 is crazy to me.

These are not really dedicated gaming laptops and you can call them portable Content Creator machine. There are plenty of examples like Acer Swift X 14, Asus VivoBook Pro OLED series, 14, 15 and 16" size, Dell XPS etc.
What makes this ROG Flow different is the custom made XG Mobile Dock and the Docking port which has a full power 150W RTX 3080 in it and the best part is that that custom port is capable of PCIe 3.0x8 speed, compare to the X4 speed in Thunderbolt. As a result, that Mobile RTX 3080 in that XG Mobile dock connected with this tiny laptop, can beat other laptops with far more powerful Desktop GPU connected via Thunderbolt 3/4 port, due to the extra memory bandwidth.

That is very cool. I like the dock bit. It isn't competitively priced at all, looks like at least 1300 for it right now, but it is a neat idea. I do wish it weren't custom so that the card could be swapped in the unit like we are used to with external options. Still, it is a very nice setup.

Thanks for educating me. I feel like it's an ideal setup if I could stomach the price. Like I really like the idea.

Exactly this. I tend to do a lot of research when buying anything over $100, and even more when I'm looking at $500 and up. Main reason... I only want to buy it once. I needed a new GPU earlier this year. Ended up with a laptop since Crypto still had the market on it's knees. I learned really quick to pay attention to GPU wattages to get the most bang for my buck.

I miss the Max-Q/P designations. They made filtering results based on personal preferences so much easier. This one at 35W would be great for the dock as someone mentioned earlier or just lower spec gaming. At 13" it's got some amazing portability going on. For the right user, this price/size is golden.

If you buy it individually then the price is going to be high. But sometimes in Asus Website, they offer a combined offer which can be cheaper. Last year, I have seen this Laptop + XG Mobile combo was around $2300 for a very limited time. Normally the availability of this kind of Combo deals are very rare.

Great little laptop with a powerhouse processor. Love mine, just wish the screen had a quicker reaction time (not refresh rate).

Yeah, unfortunately their XG Mobile solution is one of a kind right now. They can really charge what they want for the proprietary solution. Not to mention it was designed and priced during the highs of the recent GPU price spike. GPU prices are lower now, but a bunch of these were made with the higher market price in mind. Sucks.

Just a heads up, I did look into that unique solution more and it seems there are some issues with the plug. https://old.reddit.com/r/FlowX13/...that_pcie/

It looks like it gets stuck at times when a metal pin doesn't adjust when pushed.
