The big question is, what is this needed for now and is it worth the cost?
I have the Steam version already, but have not tried it so far.
I have not used AirLink before but now that it is supported on the originial quest, I would personally say try Airlink on your Quest 2 first and see if it runs well. Personally, I had no issues and would recommend VirtualDesktop on the original quest. No latency issues but I was connected to my 5 ghz wifi and my router was no longer than 15 feet away from me in the same room.

The primary function and benefit of this app is that it allows you to use your desktop in a VR environment, (which includes games.)
You can view your desktop in it's entirety or have apps display in their own separate free floating individual windows that you can arrange however you like, effectively giving you a 360° spherical display.
I run apps like BlueStacks and have a virtual Android device running in a window up and to the side that lets me use all of my normal apps in VR and also route my VoIP phone calls to my vr headset. I use a remote pc control application on my main pc to connect to several other computers and VM simultaneously.
This is ridiculously useful to be able to monitor multiple applications and systems in real time by being able to just turn my head and look at a virtual window to the side, while still having a large full screen in the center that I'm using to play Deep Rock Galactic. (Rock AND StOoONE! ⛏️) Or, you know, being busy doing adult work things.
Some might be wondering hey, can't you just get an extra monitor for your PC? And yeah I do, I've got a great multi monitor display in my office. But the beauty of being able to use this on a wireless headset is that I can have the same benefits while sitting on my couch or an excessively comfy chair. I have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I pair with my headset and that's really all you need.
Another really nice feature is that you can remote to your PC from outside of your home network, this works especially well if you have good internet on both ends, although you do need the headset connected to a 5ghz ac router regardless of where you are.
When I'm home and there is a ≤0ms ping, this is just as good or better than being in my office.
If I'm across town and on a good internet connection, there might be an added 15 or 20 millisecond delay, but it's barely noticeable for anything besides high-twitch reflex games.
When I connect to my PC I can pair virtual desktop with another application called DisplayFusion, a desktop and window Manager that allows me to create multiple "static" work areas where I can center my work, making an incredibly information dense display.

I use this app and combine it with using VR virtual desktop, this combination makes for a ridiculously information dense interface, which is incredibly useful for most of my computer hobbies. Programming, digital artwork, 3D modeling, CAD, photography and photogrammetry, video editing, VM and server monitoring / maintenance. This has been especially true for VM work because I can have a dedicated 'screen' or sub-screen for each system, and the same for remote desktop to other PCS.
A lot of people might not see any huge benefit by running an app like this, but for me it's been very useful in the windows environment.
By having everything just there and available I've a noticed that I rarely waste any time anymore waiting for things to load up, compile or batch processes to complete. If something's busy I can just switch over to another desktop view and still stay productive while being able to monitor everything else with a glance.
If anybody finds a better program, let me know. 👍

Just fyi, if you want the best quality while playing games on your PC, a direct usb-c cable connection is the best choice by far. You have great bandwidth between the headset and your PC, and the port keeps your headset charged while you play. You just have to deal with a cord, but that's not really a big deal if you put a little bit of velcro along the headset and guide the core to the back of the headset, or use a spring retractable system to attach it to the ceiling in the center of a room.

These are just some of the things that you can do to enhance the functionality of your PC through VR and add generally useful functionality to your VR headset. Virtual desktop gives you tools and options that would otherwise be nearly impossible to get through the quest headset alone, and it's by far the best application of this type that I've ever used.

Be aware, it isn't bug free. There have been plenty of times when I could not switch between my monitors as if the switch button wasn't working
Other than that it looks like a great steamvr app, would have been extremely useful back in the day when the first rift was released. (Especially when compared to the buggy "virtual space")
