99% of the tradesmen I have spoken to, prefer the Stanley FatMax.

That being said, I have tried both the Milwaukee magnetic Stud, and the Klein equivalent; they are both nice IMO, but from what I have been told, the magnet can get dirty very easily onsite, and it's a PITA to have to clean.

I'm a former carpenter and woodworker. I tried these because they where on clearance. Not even close to Fat Max or Dewalt.

Cleaning is as easy as wiping it with your fingers.I would say to get the stud or wide blade, though. The normal blade doesn't really hold up to commercial construction in my experience. FatMax is also a very good option.

Have two of these. Picked up a couple years ago on sale. They are really sturdy. My 3 and 5 year old have beaten them around and they are still holding together.

Fatmax is nice but I have had multiple 25ft tapes tear at the rivets after about a year. Of course I make hundreds of measurements every day, in a dirty environment so I'm a heavy user.
I've been using a Milwaukee Stud for over 2 years now and nothing about it is even showing signs of wear. Only downside is that is big and bulky.

At this price, you can't go wrong.
