Western Digital is offering the Elements (similar to Easystore) external hard drive in 8TB and 10TB capacities at their own web site, for $110 and $130 respectively. These are "recertified" by WD and includes a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 12-month warranty. (Unlike the current eBay deal, the warranty appears to be offered by the manufacturer itself.)
If you play your cards right, you can add some slick to this deal:
- If you load up your cart and then abandon it, a day or two later WD will send you a coupon code for 15% off.
- A populaR cash back site is currently offering 5% at this site. (Up till yesterday, it was 10%.)
Thus, the $130 10TB drive can now be had for as little as $105; the $110 8TB drive for as little as just under $89.

Yesterday, I managed to purchase four $130 10TB drives ($520) with 15% ($78) off and 10% ($44) cash back, making each drive about $100. With today's 5% cash back, that would be $105 per.
Inevitably this thread will discuss the merits and risks of purchasing a recertified drive. However, with the right RAID and backup strategies in place, you can mitigate your risk.

I bought two 10TB external hard drives like these last year in February from Office Depot. They came with a 3 year warranty. Anyways, I plug the drives in, a couple months ago, and they are unable to be read and can't even be recognized by the computer. I call WD after several hours trying to troubleshoot by myself.
They tell me to send it in, on my own dime, I ask them to provide label and after a little back and forth, they agreed. Then the same happened to me on the second drive. Sent both drives in separately, still in the plastic and original boxes. After they received the drives, they sent me an email that the warranty was voided because apparently the drives were not the same. They said they weren't sending back the drives either and I could use this email as proof to take it up with Office Depot.. it was a nightmare of a situation.. after calling them both out on Twitter, Office Depot responded and helped contact WD and they made an exception for both.. it didn't need an exception, but whatever, I was just happy to get a new working drive at this point..
Maybe because I told them the drives were unreadable by the computer so I couldn't run a scan to see what the internal drives serial number was or whatever, but it was a common problem in 8 and 10 TB drives from what I read online in forums.. best of luck to everyone! Hope your experience isn't as painful as mine.

Always check the drive right away. Return it to the store if it doesn't work.

More likely, someone bought the drives from OD, swapped out the original drive for an old piece of junk and then returned them to OD. This happens all of the time. It happened to me on a drive I bought at Walmart.

I thought of that.. Office Depot claims that they don't sell drives that are returned.. but who knows, could've been saving face.. the manager said the drives were new status.
Where did you get the coupon?
You have to send in a drive for recycling, they send you a prepaid label and when they get it you get a 15% coupon in your email.
