    I needed both thermal and blackout curtains but I couldn't decide on what to buy, especially since you can't feel the fabric online. So I ended up buying a few yards of Roc-Lon [amazon.com] Budget Blackout fabric and thumb tacks it to seal it directly to the window frame and left my regular curtains covering it. they could be made into curtains or curtain liners, it's just already in the 100s in Houston so I needed that thermal block quick and it's working.

    Miulee on Amazon sells the only true 100% blackout curtain I could find at a fair price. To be fair it more like a curtain on one side and plastic tarp on the other…

    That's the problem with the true blackout curtains. They're either very dark or they have a thick plasticky layer on the outside. If they don't have that layer than the lighter the color, the more light will be let in which is why some curtains are labeled 'blackout' and 'room darkening' in the same description because the exact same curtain can be either/or depending on how light the color is. Lighter colors = room darkening. Dark colors = blackout.

    The last set I bought were a medium-light blue color and effectively act as blackout curtains even in bright daylight except for direct sunlight which shows through. No way around it without going the ugly plastic coating route.

    Got the same brand on a previous deal, but in less hideous colors (white and a light grey). I figured it would be cheap junk we'd end up returning, but we were actually quite impressed. Have them over several windows helping out in this crazy central Texas heat. They also darkened the room enough I could sleep till noon like it was 1998 and I was a teen again.
