Lowes is offering $40 Off $200+ Purchases Digital Coupon when you register/sign-up for Lowe's Pro Business Account for Free. Additionally, you may convert your existing Lowe's account, however, you may lose some features such as Military Discount and may take time to export your purchase history, however, it is not required to do so.
This is similar to a prior deal for $20 off $100 and may be targeted to customers who haven't converted to MVP yet.

You don't. It's sent to your email. Worked for me.
I agree, but you can set up a separate MVP account.
Do you have to qualify to upgrade to a pro account?
I don't see anything about this anywhere. Does that mean I am not targeted?

Same thing happened to my Home Depot pro upgrade
Same here. Wish I hadn't converted my account.
Think of how much a company like lowes could save by doing something like this. Your situation multiplied over thousands if not tens of thousands of people. It'd be like shedding a huge liability with no downside. The only potential downside is the off chance someone calls you on it and does a class action lawsuit but that'd be a serious uphill battle over a hand tool warranty.... But stranger has been done.

Yea, kobalt hand-tool warranty is lifetime and no proof of purchase is needed. I did add my cards I pay with to my Lowe's account a few years ago so I also have a email for every purchase but I had purchases that pre-dated this and were on my Lowe's. Home Depot has all your purchases available in the app, Lowe's needs to do this too.
This way you keep military discount on the one account and use the mvp account for coupon and turbo tax

For whatever reason Lowe's sent via USPS 4 new "MyLowes" account cards.
Each one is a different account number so now I have 5 different card numbers attached to my account. I don't know what their end game is for doing this or even what could have prompted this to occur.
