For anyone who's wondering the difference between the eero and the eero pro, main difference is that the eero is dual band 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, and the eero pro is Triband 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, and 5.8GHz

Also about 200-300Mbps of bandwidth more in the Pro compared to the Eero. Which isnt saying much these things are only made for people who want to take advantage of 500Mbps ISP service if you got 1Gbps service your missing out on a lot of bandwidth over wifi.

I'm a huge fan of the eero 5 pro's (also called eero pro 2nd Gen). Will top out around 500 mbps or so, so if your connection is that or slower, no upside with getting their "newer" models

I used to have the eero and a beacon with my last internet provider for free. I recently switched to fiber optic and I'm having issues getting my 5GHz signal upstairs.

I saw they have a 3 pack. I'm wondering why anyone would need 3? Unless there's some advantage to using multiple eero pros vs 1 and beacons.

Anyone got any input for me? Currently my fiber comes in downstairs and my entire media /computer system is upstairs <.<. So the signal is terrible. Could just be the supplied router. But I'm torn on how to fix the problem

*I'm trying to get as close to the Gig of fiber optic I'm paying for as I can. So if this system won't cut it def need to know

The beacons suck, they are only dual (not tri) band.

I'd recommend the eero pro 6 3-pack. Maybe wait for prime day to see what sales they come back with though.

So you can use the others as beacons?

Ya, that's kinda the whole point, each unit can be a "mesh node", the beacon is just what the call their cheap underpowered dual band ones.

Eero pro 6 = tri band and fastest, maybe max to 800 mbps

Eero pro 6e = tri band, technically fastest but new and seems to have issues so I'd avoid.

Eero pro 2nd Gen = tri band, a little older. Tends to max around 500 mbps or so. Can get a 3-pack on ebay for like $120 (this is the router in this thread).

Everything else they make is dual band (including the beacons) so you end up getting your speeds way slower due to network congestion on the 5 ghz band.

Ideally you want each node to be 30 ft away with line of site, and knock that down 5 ft for every wall or floor you have to go through (so 2 walls = 20 feet).

Eero Pro 2 Gen still uses Cake for SQM if that is important to you. SQM on WAN limited to 500 mbps. The newer Eeros use HTB + FQ_CoDel, but can use SQM on gigabit WAN.

Sorry for making you restate what might be obvious to others, but if I have a 100Mbps plan is there any benefit to picking the pro?

You won't get a speed benefit. The Pro's do have a little more range, and they have a 3rd wifi band so less congestion ie you have 3 highways to drive on instead of 2 (unlikely to be an issue unless you are IoT/home automation heavy). Main reason to go for Pro's would be if you think you'll ever upgrade internet speeds, since the reg will top out around 220 mbps or so, and these 2nd gen pro's can get to 500+ mbps.

I set-up the regular eeros for a family member's house and they've been ultra solid.

Just keep in mind, the 3-pack 2nd gen eero pros can be had used on ebay for like $115 or so. I've personally had good luck with used eero's, since they don't "go bad", and they are used as soon as you open the box.

Thank you for all of the detailed responses…I definitely appreciate it. Currently we are not using many smart appliances, just a thermostat and lots of streaming. However, I failed to include a zero in my post as I have a 1000mbps plan. So it would seem as if I would get an uplift with the pro units. Thank you for the feedback on the used unit reliability as well!

In for one as I am having range issues with my model J010011 dual band.

Can I still use the 3 old versions from 2020 with this eero pro set to extend my coverage (even if slower)?

Got the eero pro 6E and I kid you not it is a PoS.
My work VPN became unstable. Typically I my Orbi RBK50 setup it was never an issue. Would go days without disconnecting!! With this would t last more than a few minutes.

Throughput sucks. Less than half of the many years old Orbi.

Just unbelievably poor device.

I'm sure there are those that will swear by the performance of these shitty devices and therefore to them… no comment needed please
Move on 😂
