Goin by rtings metrics. About the only thing going for this TV is it is 120hz native and the hdmi 2.1 ports. I'm guessing it's not gonna blow you away with picture quality but for the price and size looks pretty solid.

I assume this would still be better than any TV from 2015 (which is what I have)
Or just get a Hisense U6G/GR?

The best 2015 sets will have a better viewing experience than an entry level 4k set. If you want size and budget and off angle isn't important, this is cheap. Your source is very important. Garbage in looks worse on entry level sets. Better sets have better filters and processors to help clean up the signal. But you can't fix blooming, DSE, and poor off axis. Only adjust.

Thanks. I guess I'll keep holding off. I have a 7+ year old Samsung but would like to upgrade and not spend a ridiculous amount

I bought one of these in December from Best Buy. It does run 120hz 4k and my PC and xbox series s, network video content, hdmi content, all really well. It's bright, and has decent picture quality and links up with our other LG appliances and Apple devices. It's definitely not the same quality as my Sony OLED, but it's a fine workhorse of a tv.

Now for the bad: one day it randomly got artifacts of intersecting orange lines through the screen, and they never go away, but best buy is supposed to be out in a couple weeks to fix it. Nobody was even touching the tv, they just appeared mid-viewing some content. It's the first tv I've bought in a while that's broken on me. Hopefully just a fluke. Also viewing at extreme angles wash out the picture.

I think it's hard on LG to compare its LCD TV with Sony's OLED? That is a different technology behind the screen though

I'm looking to upgrade my 7+ year old Samsung too. It's hard to find a good TV at a solid price

Would've jumped on it if it were at least IPS panel.

Fwiw for most people VA is a better tech. MUCH better contrast at the expense of a bit of color accuracy and viewing angles. The "muh IPS" thing is a vestige of monitor buying discussions (I e., IPS vs TN) from like 10 years ago as far as I can tell.

VA panel viewing angles are just garbage and let alone brightness of it in a bright room.

Post from January 26 2022, Not from 10 years back. Strictly comparing tech irrespective of if its a monitor or a TV. For a lot of people TV is a very subjective decision.
