The USB-C on this is data only, per the PSREF specs. Build is all plastic - IdeaPad 1 is the lowest rung in their consumer lineup. 5700U processor is built on older Zen 2 architecture - you can find 5625U at close to this price with Zen 3 (but 2 fewer cores - although 6 is plenty for almost any use). No backlit keyboard, a common feature at $500. Not a great deal.

Thanks much! Is there a review of this unit? Considering returning the MSI Modern 15 I got and getting this but want to know if this is metal or plastic?

The IdeaPad 3 is all plastic, you have to go up to the 5 to get (partial) metal construction.

Those comments state that it very likely has a 250nit 1080p TN display, and that it is an erroneous product listing. The $570 Bestbuy deal allegedly has 300 nit IPS touch display.
Before i ordered the 5700U version from this post, I compared the CPU to the 5625U and the passmark CPU scores were very close to each other. what difference does it make, 5700U vs 5625U?

I was considering the MSI Modern 15. Did you not like it? Or does this just look like a better laptop for the price?

The USB-C port on the MSI looks like it's data only (from reviews, haven't opened my packaging) and that's kind of a no go for me. I ordered the IdeaPad 3 but will probably end up returning that too. Leaning heavily towards the HP Envy Frontpage deal

ETA: Here's an example of a much better buy, the IdeaPad 3: https://slickdeals.net/f/15866014-ideapad-3-15-2022-15-6-fhd-ips-ryzen-5-5625u-16gb-ddr4-512gb-pcie-ssd-win11h-509-99-f-s. 5625U with Zen 3 (but 6 cores instead of 8), backlit keyboard, 4GB more RAM, USB-C with Power Delivery and Display Port, fingerprint reader. It's marked expired but back again at the same $510 price.
edit: whoops, I was looking for the answer too and didn't refresh to see someone else answered
