Crazy good deal in store. Even pre-pandemic and pre-inflation, this was $996 at Costco when you caught the roadshow, which was the best price around. If you've been thinking about it, this probably as good as it gets. The 2 has a bunch of nice upgrades over the 1, and the 3 is certainly even better, but it is never anywhere near this price.
truly a luxury purchase, but necessary for cliché "suburban dad" status
in all seriousness, you'll never want to buy bbq/burgers/pizza/smoked food/etc at a restaurant again once you get a kamado grill
Haha true to this. Also need Yeti Cooler for a backyard party. This seems like a good deal if you're in the market for one. I think pellet grills are giving these ceramics a run for their money though and taking some market share. I can't complain. I got a lousiana k24 (from costco) for free from a neighbor. It's great, just for me not $800 great.
yea i saw this yesterday at local costco. so tempted... but the thought of it being so damn heavy.. no way wifey and i could unload it when we get home.
i see the grilling space isn't super big.. so i'm wondering how many ribs or chicken thigh can you smoke at the same time?

Two racks is max for me unless I go and buy the dedicated ribs rack ; to
unload break open the box and move it pieces at a time. Each top section and bottom section can be moved by one person bear hugging it.

i used my master forge bbq grill to smoke 2 full racks and kiddos killed it.

Pellet grills appeal to lazy folks who can't seem to learn the easy concept of air intake and exhaust.
Pellet grills also require frequent cleaning and the failure rate of parts is a trillion times higher vs a passive draft grill.
So basically, the laziest grillers are buying the highest maintenance class of product.
I don't see this fad going for very long. They'll be moving back to gassers eventually.

Traegers are definitely already past their prime, a few years ago used ones were going for $250-400 now I see them listed on my local nextdoor for free or less than $100 quite often.
I have a new Weber Genesis gas grill. Will the Kamado compliment it or straight up replace it? The Weber heats up fast and easy to use but the charcoal grilling really interests me.

It's not too heavy for two people. It's not one piece. The inner, cover, and outer lower are all separate

I have large Big Green Egg and a Kamado Jr; they are incredible. However, I ran natural gas out to my patio and have a high-end gas grill (the price was too good to refuse.) They all are used. Undoubtedly a kamado provides superior results. However, if I want to do something really quick, I use the gas grill. In addition, I have been using the gas grill more as an alternative to my indoor oven of late. It was been in the upper 90s as of late, with high humidity. Call me silly but I use the grill instead of the oven as the AC works hard enough as is. A couple other notes, I enjoy grilling with charcoal so much more. I also have the Joe-tisserrie that is incredible!! In addition, Kamado Joes and Big Green Eggs have lifetime warranties on their ceramics. If you are thinking about a Kamado, can swing the funds, I say go for it and expand your horizons!

Never used it, but I've only heard good things about it.

I can go to work, and not worry about the temps going out of range, even if I'm running late.
I can even watch the temp probes on my phone, and shut down the grill if I've reached temp.
Still use my egg, mostly for pizzas because I do them @ 700f. (my pellet won't exceed 500)
If you are still using gas, you should absolutely switch to wood! You will really step up your game

Doing pizza on this is going to wreck your seals and wastes a hell of a lot of fuel. I ended up buying an ooni even though I have a large Kamado.
