Agreed. The quality isn't what it used to be. Forget about factory seconds - the firsts are already questionable.

They sold out a few years ago. New ownership is cutting quality while riding on a trusted name, happens all the time. And I agree, trash quality lately.

How much are you willing to spend? If you want cheap, you could pick up a brand like Gordon rush or Cole haan at a discount store like Nordstrom rack and get a lot of value out of them. I got a pair of black double monk GR from the rack a few years back that I still use. If you're willing to spend a little more than AE retail - Carmina or Alden. If you're willing to spend a lot, there are brands like Vass, john lobb, and Edward green. I took a gamble and bought this off eBay. Seller was very responsive about answering my questions and said they'll slightly alter shoe measurements based on my own for free even.
