Great price. It's nice to see prices going down. New chips should be coming soon.
Better off going for the 5600 non X from microcenter. Its $40 less but you're only losing a few % in terms of total performance combined with slightly less power draw and slightly lower heat on the 5600 non X. You can also use that coupon on the 5600 thus making it EVEN CHEAPER lol... Most ppl aren't close enough to a microcenter to warrant the small difference in cost. With how expensive gas is these days.... This gets delivered right to your door.
Love MSI. 4 rigs all running some level of AMD. Highly recommended! Just match your RAM correctly and BIOS, you'll never be happier.

Second the MSI B550 Tomahawk! Great board

Better at Microcenter if you're close: $189 -$25 coupon (go to Facebook page) -$20 with motherboard = $144 + tax. Assuming you need a MB. Otherwise $164, still beating Amazon price.

This beast was going for $120 a week ago. Might be overkill.

Went with a MSI B550 Tomahawk ($170) mostly for front USB-C and overall great features.

B550 has PCI-E 4.0 which 5600x supports and best bang for the buck chipset imo. There's limitation to the PCI-E 4.0 such as only one m.2 slot supports it (other is 3.0).

Honestly, there's a lot of great B550 boards and it's best to narrow down based on your feature preferences (wifi, USB slots, etc)

Is the stock cooler good enough if I'm not planning to overclock?

Depends on what kind of work you're planning to do with this processor but if it's just gaming then the stock cooler is "good enough". A decent aftermarket cooler for this isn't too expensive so you can always test with the stock cooler, see how it makes you feel for temps and stuff first and then buy an aftermarket one if you are still concerned.

this one doesn't look too bad, on sale for $20 bucks rn.

It's fine. Ambient temperatures matter of course. But I've never had any thermal throttling with any type of workload with the including cooler.

I have this processor and I've been really impressed. Between it and my Samsung 980 Pro SSD my system feels super snappy and loads games as fast as my Xbox Series X (non-quick-resume).

You could hold out (and pay more) for AM5 stuff later this year, but if you can find a good deal on a motherboard, I think you'll find that a 5600X system is a pretty good value.

While I think the stock cooler is perfectly fine for stock usage, there's great tower coolers for value pricing. This Deepcool, the ID-Cooling SE-224-XT is another great solution. This chip won't require super high end cooling, and sound more so than anything make aftermarket more tempting.
