Picked up two. Not a great price but it's good. The 12TB were $180 a few weeks ago. $10 for 2TB more would have been great. Need them before the weekend so it worked out perfect. Thanks for posting. Cheers.

This is a bit high I saw the 14 TB and the 12 terabyte they were both at about 15$/TB this is 17$/TB. I purchased 2 of those. I would wait a bit longer, especially with all the news that's been out with the extended 20 and 30 TB drives coming out this should make these smaller drives drop in price.

Great price. These are the good CMR drives and not the crappy SMR drives.

I had purchased a 4TB on a previous deal and I use it with an external connector. But it does not consistently start. Is there something magical about these drives or did I get a dud? It would be my first time. It is still under warranty - maybe less than 6 months old. I have never really had a WD drive fail me except once. I do not feel it spin up.

Out side of the obvious did you get it from NoEgg, with out a box in a padded envelop question I would ask you, I think I remember something about of the newer drives needing some special modding to go from external USB to internal PC or Vice versa.. It was a power issue though.. Like some Some drives need +5 and +12 and a external case useualy has only +12. If that is not the issue, I go with my origanal thought. Only way to tell for sure is put it in a PC with a proper power supply and use it for a while and reboot a couple times to see if the problem goes away. You could also do the WD drive diagnostic to see if there are some smart error codes stored.

I used 44 MB Skyquest drives. I first owned a 30mb drive for my Atari. And I remember loading 4K programs from cassette tapes

Depending on what it is- this might be relevant- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W3-uOl4ruc

I've had to add some kapton tape to each WD 10TB that I've shucked.

Is there a specific brand or link to the Kapton tape you are using? I see reviews all over the place as some not sticking or fake tape. The link in the video you sent was for Tape Master.

In my situation, I have a hot swap push in hard drive connector that is in the desktop. I used that first and got it to work. So it was using all the connectors from the motherboard and the PSU. Then after a week it just stopped. I then played with it and got it to work in an external USB connector, like twice, and now nothing. It is a 4TB Red Plus drive that I purchased but I am not using it in a NAS. I did not shuck it. So maybe the tape will be the lifesaver.

Thanks for the reply. I purchased via Best Buy so I could pick it up in person. I read that WD was just putting them in envelops, so I went with Best Buy. I see below someone recommending insulation the 3rd pin, so I will try that. Originally I had it in my desktop and it work for a small amount of time then nothing. That is why I moved it to an external connector. But my machine is older, only 750 watt gold power supply, so it could be an issue. But I will try the Kapton tape next. Thanks again.

When I had the WD drive diagnostics available, there were no errors.

Apologies- only saw this now.

I couldn't tell you what I bought. The roll is so big relative to my needs that it will last til I'm dead in the ground. I will say you have to be pretty delicate and deliberate when applying it. The sata power cables can easily unseat it if you're not paying attention.

Thanks for the reply. I purchased the tape and yes it is a big role relative to what you need. The tape did not work, but I noticed that for my usb attachment, it only works in one usb and not the other one. I just purchased the cheap Acer machine that I may test it in. It has more current components.

Thanks again.
