GENUINE leather.

Still looking for a belt solution. Fake leather ones get wrecked around the holes. Ratchet belts keep the exterior looking nice, but always split along the edge. Does real leather keep it's shape/look?

I have a 20 year old moderately heavy leather belt and it has absolutely held up. Never had to refinish it (it shows a little weathering but still looks decent), holes have held up (I ven added a couple further out when I gained weight), the only reason I don't wear it is my gut feels uncomfortable on it until I lose a little more weight (but that is in progress).

I bought it from an independent leathermaker shop at a flea market. great price, great quality. It would probably cost far more looking for a name brand that is as well built.

Leather or not you'll typically get out what you put in, so check out some quality companies rather than Amazon specials. Here are some sustainable options https://www.gearandgood.com/10-st...ens-belts/

You linked to a blog that recommends vinyl (aka "vegan leather") belts. Exactly what the poster said they didn't want.

In my experience those are just as bad as "bonded leather" belts.

Bonded leather and poor quality vinyl leather belts are absolutely comparable. Have you tried any of the brands in the blog? Main point is you can find good quality either way if you research a bit, bonus for not defaulting to Amazon.

No, I have a carhartt leather belt that is a hunk of genuine leather, had it for almost 10 years. Before that had some other brand, another hunk of genuine leather, it was 12 years old when the buckle failed. Still looking for a new buckle.

I've never had any good experiences with anything other than real leather or cordura nylon. Was gifted one "pleather" belt many moons ago, it failed within a month. So I may be a little biased. Cool
