A unique puppy with humbucker and no middle pickup.
Funny I was looking for a guitar without middle pickup. Just as well for me though.
Here's the deal....
They (Dr They, LOL.) say it's a trade-off between more functions and supposedly not having the middle pickup hinder the sustain of the strings. The conclusion however is that the strings are not hindered enough to matter. So you would rather keep the options, or HSS strat. But it's still very popular thing currently and very unique setup; that should even keep a little value better.
The real choice is where to put your humbucker.
Strat, Tele, LP, ....
And what does matter noticeably (It changes around harmonic overtones) is where the pickup you're using is from the bridge to the neck, exactly. Therefore; strats have a pretty cool selection do they not?
Rabbit hole but it matters and it's fun.
Oh and one does not have to get a humbucker at all I suppose. People just want one when there is no pedals. There are pedal ways to make a single coil sound like a its less range and a deeper boosted humbucker.
Todays multi effects pedals let a single coil sound like a humbucker and more.
The prob with just humbuckers is you'd miss the strat and tele sound and vice versa. Split coil is only a facsimile. So decide which guitar type and position you want your humbucker(s) at.
*If* you want more than one electric guitar then you can have humbucker(s) in one and switch guitars that way. You would have a backup for any performance.
