This is a bit of a layered response. Firstly, you should select a cable modem that doesn't act as a bottleneck for the speeds you're paying. For example, if you signed up for 1 Gbps, don't select a modem with max 800 Mbps. Secondly, you need to determine your personal needs. Do you want an integrated wifi/router or not? Keep in mind that depending on your use case, the integrated wifi/router tends to be lower quality and capabilities than standalone solutions. It also means that if your wifi fails or your router breaks, you need to replace the cable modem as well (if you have other router/wifi options, you should be able to disable these features in the cable modem).

That all being said, similar products from Arris and Netgear (from my checks on Amazon) have higher prices at the same performance level. So the 20% discount is legit. "IN GENERAL," Motorola's cable modem solutions are quite good. I would slot them between Arris and Netgear if I had to rank (Netgear being highest).

Finally, consider that internet speeds will likely only get higher as infrastructure improves and devices demand more data. If you can stretch to a higher tier/capability for a modem, I recommend you do it.

I'm in the same situation. Looking for a simple, decent option because I don't want to spend a ton of money or learn a lot about the different router specs. Wondering if the 7700 is the way to go?

Well doggone it... I bought a MB8600 a couple weeks ago with the 15% code off for $136.00 plus tax. Now it's $128.00. I feel kinda screwed. I'm going to call the customer service dept to see if I can get that $8 difference refunded.

You can get pretty good deals on FB marketplace for about 30 to 40 for a top notch DOCSIS 3.1 modem.

Are you using their gateway currently? If you are paying for unlimited data, it's cheaper to use their equipment than yours. In my region, it's $25/month to rent their stuff and get unlimited data. If you bring your own modem and router it's $30/month.

I believe the MB7621 has the Intel Puma chip which is notorious for connection issues back in the day. I think they said it's been fixed but people reported that it's still hit and miss. For example your connection might be stable but you'll get lag when playing online games.
